FIG General Assembly 2018

As part of FIG Congress 2018 the FIG General Assembly 2018 was held with a record number of delegates. In the first General Assembly on 6 may 58 member associations were represented, and in the second a total of 71 member associations were present during the General Assembly and the votings.

The Congress 2018 marked the final year for FIG President Chryssy Potsiou and her council as well as commission chairs. Read more...

 

FIG Congress 2018

FIG Congress 2018 was held successfully in Istanbul Turkey. The Turkish hosts had done their utmost to make the congres an unforgettable event.

More than 2,300 participants form Turkey and all over the world found their way to the Istanbul Convention Center in the city center of beautiful Istanbul, close to Taksim Sqaure.

The Congress was opened with a festive Turkish dance perfomed by a very talented teenage dance company from Ankara which set the lively atmosphere. Read more...

Put on your dancing shoes..

The FIG Young Surveyors Network carries out the Charity tradition and during this years' Charity we invite you and all of your colleagues to learn the regional folk dance styles.

With this dance, lead by our local Young Surveyor Pınar Yeşim Limandal, we will support the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Local community “Yer Çizenler Herkes İçin Haritacılık Derneği" and FIG Foundation .

Note: the dance is not only for Young Surveyors, but for every one! So don't forget to pack your dancing shoes!

Prepare your presentation for the FIG Congress 2018!

We have the template for the presentations ready!

It is important to read the guidelines so you can be sure that you are fully prepared.

All speakers are requested to visit the Speakers' preperation room (YILDIZ 2) at least 24 hours prior the start of your session. It is important that your presentation is named correctly so that it can be showed in the session. Please name your presentation with the given ID-number (example: 9100_ppt.ppt ). Keep in mind that no own laptops are allowed. Your presentation must be shown through the computer in the room with your session.

To be sure you are going to nail your presentation: some tips
  • Show your passion and connect with your audience.

You know your paper the best, you have written it. You want to connect with the audience and the best way to do that is let the passion for your paper shine through. You want to ‘sell’ your paper and make the audience read the paper.

  •  Focus on your audience needs

Identify places for audience input. Ask rhetorical questions at key points and wait for responses. You can tell the audience everything, but do they want to hear that? Focus on your audience’s response and react to that.

  •  Smile…

Look people in the eye and not at them, they are there for you! Smiling helps you to feel less nervous. It has been estimated that more than three quarters of communication is non-verbal.

And don’t forget to enjoy!
